HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Romance is in the air, and what could be more romantic than cover art featuring Jimmy Thomas?

I’m pleased to announce that I’ve contracted custom photo shoots with Jimmy for all four books of the “HEART” series. Once the covers are ready, the original books of the trilogy will be released a month apart: THE VALIANT HEART, THE DEFIANT HEART, and THE CAPTIVE HEART. THE GALLANT HEART will follow in 2014.

Check back for updates on release times. Hopefully, all will be ready in a month or two. Story synopses for the HEART books can be found at www.kathleenkirkwoodhistoricals.com. Simply click on the cover art and you will be directed to a dedicated page.

Please note that these books were originally published under my name, “Anita Gordon.”  Current wisdom in this digital age advises authors to place all their titles under ONE name. After initially resisting the notion – but then recalling readers who lost track of me after I took a pen name (required when I changed publishers) -  I decided it best to stay with one name. Since my “Kathleen Kirkwood” titles went out digital door in 2012, the HEART books will be released under my pen name as well. I hope this will not confuse fans from the past and would certainly welcome your thoughts.

Meanwhile, Happy Valentine’s Day, and if you’d like to visit Jimmy Thomas’ amazing websites, here’s where you can find him:

A Very Belated “Happy New Year” plus an Update

A very belated but happy wishes for your New Year, plus warm wishes to all, especially those experiencing the current icy and stormy weather that has gripped the United States. I can’t believe we have already arrived at the end of January. Time sped past these past two months — okay, it totally went into the blender —and I never got to send holiday cheers as planned. Mea culpa.

Although time slipped past, it has been productive on the writing front. Here’s a little update:

My 10th century medieval trilogy (think Norsemen) is in the process of being “refreshed” and re-edited, and they are also receiving their new covers. That process is nearing completion, and when ready, all three books will be released very close together. Please visit my website for the full descriptions of THE VALIANT HEART, THE DEFIANT HEART, and THE CAPTIVE HEART. My goal is to add a fourth book to the series in 2014 entitled THE GALLANT HEART.

It made sense to release the HEART trilogy as quickly as possible, especially with the Viking cable movie coming this summer. Timing is everything! When VALIANT is ready for release, a small contest will be held to rename my hero’s sword. Yes, as strange as it may sound, Rurik’s sword needs a new name. Explanations and details to come.

Due to the need to publish the HEART books asap, the release of PIRATES’ MOON has had to be readjusted. My apologies to all who have been waiting for its release. My motto is “No wine before it’s time, and no prose either.” I want the story to be all it can be. That equates to giving it the time it needs. It should be released later this year.

On a slightly different note, HIS FAIR LADY’s exclusive availability on Amazon has ended and is back up on the Barnes and Noble, Kobobooks and Smashwords websites. It should be available on Apple, Sony and Diesel soon too. It also remains available on Amazon and Createspace as well (it’s just not exclusive to them any more).

Wishing you all the best in 2013. See you back soon.

Happy Birthday Cake!

“Twenty-nine” again and what to my wondering eyes should appear at my door but a gorgeous, “fat-free” floral birthday cake from daughter, Kim, son-in-law, Brian, and the grands – Sean, Beau, Connor and Nicholas.

More well-wishes, cards and flowers poured in from hubby, sons Chris and Scott, daughter-in-law, Ligia, and grandson, Aidyn – some of them even sang. Dear friend, Anne, treated Mr. KK and I to breakfast at Tucson’s fabulous Tohono Chul Park. Afternoon treats included yummy chocolate petit fours from Mom and Dad.

Thank you one and all. You truly take the cake!

LEGEND OF THE BLUE DOG

Friends, I have been away and do apologize for letting the blog so sorely lapse. Since October, I’ve been on travel, attended a spiritual retreat and, subsequently, my first Science Fiction/Fantasy conference, TusCon,  where I participated on various panels, including a reading and talk on “time-slips,” tossed in for good measure. (More in blogs to come.)

My trip east took me back to my roots in historic Port Tobacco, Maryland, which also happens to be the setting, in part, for my forthcoming novel, PIRATES’ MOON (2013). Port Tobacco was once the seat of government for Charles County (founded in 1658). It became a ghost town when the court house was burned under suspicious circumstances (1892), and the county seat was moved (1895).

When I grew up, only a few of the original 18th century houses remained, the others having been long since dismantled and removed, and tobacco planted in the vacant fields. My own girlhood home was a replica of the original building that once stood on the town square proper, looking out on a remnant of the old courthouse (now rebuilt), Chimney House (c 1750) and Stagg Hall (c 1740), which has remained in the family since my great-grandparents’ day.
With the county’s long history you’ll understand when I say I was raised on more than a few ghost stories. None was more memorable than the “Legend of the Blue Dog” — a legend forever associated with the beautiful Rose Hill Mansion that sits on a hill, overlooking the Port Tobacco valley. (More on the legend to come.)

During my recent visit to Port Tobacco, my parents surprised me with an outing to the “Blue Dog Saloon” nearby. I was captivated from the moment I gazed on the Saloon’s warm stone exterior and signage, the theme clearly resonating through me. Inside, on entering the dining room, I was astonished to discover an enormous and quite wonderful painting, depicting the Legend of the Blue Dog. I fell instantly in love.

Returning the following day to capture pictures of the Saloon’s exterior and interior — and most especially the painting — I met the owners, Gary and Heidi Fick, and learned that prints and a canvas version of the painting would soon be offered for purchase in order to raise money for a charitable cause — that of bringing running water to the poor of Nanjemoy in the county’s western district, who have none in their homes.
Gary and Heidi also placed me in contact with Don Zimmer, artist extraordinaire and Port Tobacco resident, who created this marvelous work of art. It has been a great privilege and pleasure to speak with him and to learn more of his projects and art.

I’m delighted to report that the prints and a canvas version of Don’s painting are now available for purchase. To learn about the “Legend of the Blue Dog,” the artist (Don Zimmer), the Nanjemoy Neighbors Water Project, and how to order your own print, go to www.bluedoglegend.com.

If you are in the area and would like to stop by the Blue Dog Saloon for a delicious meal, entertainment, and to view the original art piece visit www.thebluedogsaloon.com.

HIS FAIR LADY now exclusive to Amazon

Just a quick note to inform you that, on November 1st, we enrolled HIS FAIR LADY in Amazon's KDP Select program for a 90 day trial period. So, for that period, HFL will be available only through Amazon companies (Kindle and Createspace) in Kindle e-Book and Createspace Trade Paperback print formats. To enter HFL into the KDP Select program, we had to remove it from the Barnes and Noble, Kobobooks and Apple iTunes stores. As a result of this action, our HFL purchase links for the Nook, Kobo and Apple formats will no longer return a valid purchase opportunity. After the trial period ends, we'll evaluate whether or not to continue HFL in the KDP Select program or return it to the other stores.
